Dr Matt Oldman

Dr Matt Oldman has been a substantive Consultant Anaesthetist at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth since 2005. He trained at St George’s Hospital Medical School, London, and completed specialist anaesthetic training in the South West Peninsula.

He undertook advanced training in regional anaesthesia, including a fellowship in Toronto, Canada in 2002. His NHS specialist practice focuses mainly on anaesthesia for orthopaedic and plastics surgery, where has particularly expertese in awake upper limb surgery and arthroplasty surgery.

As a consultant at a major teaching hospital, Dr Oldman maintains a broad and up-to-date clinical practice across multiple surgical specialties. This environment requires continual engagement with evolving evidence, techniques and perioperative pathways, ensuring his practice reflects current best standards in anaesthesia and patient care.

Dr Oldman has worked with Plymouth Anaesthesia LLP for over 20 years, delivering consultant-led anaesthesia at Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital and other independent sector sites. His practice spans a wide range of surgical specialties. He is recognised by all major UK private medical insurers (not fee assured).

He is actively involved in teaching and training in ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia at a local, national and international level. He is an examiner for the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia Diploma, and chairman of the local regional anaesthesia group (SOWRA).
